Russia can hurt US economy with this

If Russia now does more and more trade with Asia, instead of with Europe and the West, then obviously that’s not… that’s good for Russia, that’s good for Asia, but America gets cut out and Europe gets cut out.

You know, Russia used to sell a lot of gas to Europe, it still does, but if they stop selling natural gas to Europe, and sell it to Asia – that is not good for Europe, and, ultimately, not good for the US either, because the US and Europe are huge trading partners.

Jim Rogers: Putin outsmarted Obama

Unfortunately America seems to have really bungled this whole thing very badly. As you know, they’ve tried to instigate a coup in Ukraine against an elected government, and they did that somewhat successfully, but then they didn’t think through the consequences. Mr. Putin seems to have outsmarted us, Putin now is in control of Crimea, which Russians have controlled for many decades, so that’s not so unusual – what’s unusual is that America didn’t think through what they were doing, they seem to just react on a day-to-day basis, so now… Crimea is part of Russia, the Russians have more and more allies in Asia.

I’m afraid America just didn’t think it through, they’ve bungled, they’ve acted on a day-to-day basis, and they’ve reacted to events instead of looking to the future and controlling events. Mr. Putin seems to have outsmarted Mr. Obama.

Jim Rogers says most people trade too often

I'm not very good at short term trading and market timing. As far as I'm concerned, and this does not apply to traders, most people should do nothing most of the time. If they own something they should wait.

In my case, I might wait years for it to mature and develop. I like to find things with positive changes. A lot of times I am doing nothing, waiting for opportunities, or to let opportunities mature. Something I'm watching at the moment and even acted a little bit is Russia.

Now I have started made a few investments in Russia, which is perhaps the cheapest market in the world and certainly one the hated markets in the world.

Check facts before acting on it

Never act upon wishful thinking. Act without checking the facts, and chances are that you will be swept away along with the mob.

When would Jim get excited about India investments

If India makes currency convertible and opens the markets to all investors, where anyone can bring money in and take it out, then only I would get excited.

Jim Rogers on India's problems

I hope some exciting things will happen going forward. One must remember, when Manmohan Singh came to power, he promised all sorts of exciting and wonderful things, but that did not happen for whatever reasons. I hope Modi does deliver on his promises because he has the power and the mandate.

Everyone knows that India has been badly managed for decades. There are concerns about inflation, trade deficit, high debt-to-GDP ratio. Whether Modi can solve all these problems, I don't know, I am still sceptical.

Deposit in bank accounts could be at risk if Bank fails

The US Government has changed a various regulations and laws so that we too being Americans, could have our bank accounts raided. You and I if we have money in a Bank that is failing, the politicians decided they are not going to use tax payers money to bail them out anymore and so that means the depositors are on the hook. That change has been made in the UK, that change has been made in Europe and probably been made world wide. So be very careful.

Jim Rogers: Buy the rumour sell the news

Normally, when markets move as per anticipation, one should sell as an expression in financial markets -- buy on rumors and sell on news. Investors have been buying for the past several weeks in anticipation of a favorable political outcome [in India elections], thus many investors will sell now because that's traditionally been the right thing to do.

If, I were an Indian, I would probably sell into this kind of excitement because markets have anticipated this event. Now, the markets will consolidate and may go do ..

Jim Rogers wishes best for India

Indian markets were very excited about the elections for the past several weeks. The benchmark indices have rallied nearly 20% in this period on anticipation of a favourable political outcome.

Modi is a better man than many other politicians in India, but whether he will be able to deliver things as promised, I am sceptical about because there is a huge bureaucracy in the system and opposition from politicians. I sincerely hope that things change in India, but I am sceptical as politician ..

Jim Rogers praises Russia

Russia could probably be the largest producer of nearly anything, just because it is such a gigantic area. Its so huge. They are the largest producer of oil in the world and they could probably lots and lots of oil and other things in the future.

Jim Rogers: Exchange controls coming to America

No doubt on my mind there will be exchange controls on Americans sometime in the next few years. When a nation gets itself to this kind of situation one of the things which politicians have always done is they have imposed exchange controls when things get bad. I know America will do it too. We've had exchange controls in the US before. We will have them again.

I would urge people to think about protecting themselves however they can by having some of their assets outside the US.

Why more people could move away from US Dollar

Jim Rogers on US sanctions on Russia and US Dollar

I would think that anyone using the US Dollar put up and take notice, because it is clear that if America does not like you, they have weapons at their disposal including blocking your US Dollar.

I would suspect more and more people are saying "Wait a minute maybe I should use something else besides the US Dollar". So yes, in the long term there could be a continued move away from the Dollar away from fundamental reasons, but this gives a more impetus to move away sooner.
