Rogers looking in Russia and China investments

I am mainly watching at the moment. I am looking into investments in Russia.

The Chinese government had a big meeting in November 2013. What they say is the most 3 important things in 35 years to decide which industries they are going to focus on. I am looking into those industries too, on the theory that if the Chinese government is going to spend a lot of money on an industry then I should put some money too. They have more money than I do. They have been more successful than most countries for a while.

India elections could help Gold Prices higher

There's an election coming, so Indian politicians will do everything they can to pander to the voters. One of those things may be to try to remove some of the restrictions on Gold. I wouldn't be too optimistic for it to last, depending on who will win. After the elections, the Indian problems are not going away, the Indian problems are their balance of payments etc etc.

Why gold is rallying right now

There was a gigantic short position in Gold earlier this year. That would probably lead to a rally. Big short positions in anything often leads to a rally.

We had this gigantic short position. We are having a rally. Its a bear market.

Is the correction in Gold over ? I don't know.

I suspect there will be another chance to buy gold. I certainly have not sold any gold. I dont plan to sell my gold until it turns into an eventual bubble, that it will turn someday.

Blue Chip stocks could be beneficiary of Tax Free accounts

People aren’t crazy. In my view, Japan is a place where you might make some money.

Look at some of the blue chips in particular. They’ve done nothing. Normally, when people start investing in these tax-free kinds of accounts, they invest in blue chips, because that’s what they know.

Abe policies game changer in Japan

You look at things like NTT, which has done nothing for 13 years. It goes sideways.

Mr. Abe, two weeks ago, changed the situation in Japan by giving people tax-free incentives to invest in the stock market.

I’ve seen this in many countries over the past few decades, and if you tell people they can invest in something tax free, you know what? They do it!

Why Japanese Stocks are still a reasonable buy

Prime Minister Abe is spending and printing enormous amounts of money, which in my view will ruin Japan eventually. In 20 years, we’ll look back at Japan, and its death knell will be what Mr. Abe did in 2012-2014.

But in the meantime, there are staggering amounts of money and spending, and printing has to go somewhere, and I suspect a lot of it’s going to find its way into the stock market. Sure, it’s doubled in the last year, but its all-time high is 24 years ago!

Russia stocks are very cheap

I would start with Russia, given that it’s one of the most hated markets in the world.

I first went to Russia in 1966 and came away negative, and I stayed negative for the next 46 years, so it’s been a long-term bear for me. But in recent months I’ve started changing my views and have started buying shares in Russia.

Russia is very, very cheap, and it’s a very neglected stock market with enormous natural resources.

3 advices from Jim Rogers on gold

Jim Rogers has a few words of advice for investors. Firstly he believes in the principle of learning about your own investments. He says, "Do your homework, don’t buy gold because you heard me say it or even because you hear you say it."

Secondly Jim says of people who have done their homework but haven't invested,  "But if people don’t own they should start after they have done their homework."

Finally he says after you do your homework they will probably say “Oh my gosh, I better have insurance, and gold and silver may get me through serious problems ahead.

Chinese spending can be clue to stock market performance

Legendary stock market investor Jim Rogers thinks the world stock market 'party' will come to a nasty end - but before it does, he says we should look to the Chinese government spending for clues on the best investment opportunities

America's Healthcare is dissapointing

In America we spend 17 percent of our GDP on healthcare. That is 3 or 4 times as much as number 2 or number 3 and we certainly don`t have the results.

Our life expectancy is not even in the Top 20. Life expectancy for children is abysmal.

Wherever we are spending, wherever the government is directing, we are not getting the results that other countries are.

US, Japan and Russia

The United States stock market is at all time highs. The Japanese stock market is down 60 or 70 percent from its all time highs and Mr. Abe in Japan has no constraints, he can spend as much as he wants, he can print as much as he wants, so I am playing it more in japan than in the United States.

I am playing it in Russia, for instance, where there is surely a very depressed stock market. Everybody hates Russia.

Jim Rogers on his recent buys

I do not have a clue [on what Jim would recommend people to buy]. I am not any good at that sort of a thing. I had bought SAS Airline which is a big disaster. I bought the Russian ETF.

The Chinese are spending a lot of money on some parts of the economy and I am looking at places like that. I bought NTT, the gigantic Japanese blue chip, because the Japanese can now have tax-free investment accounts.

The unification of South and North Korea will be possible within five years.” He added, “The combination of South Korea’s capital and technical skills, and North Korea’s labor and natural resources, is likely to make Korea grow exponentially.

Jim Rogers not big fan of rupee

I am not optimistic about the rupee. You constantly have huge deficits, trade deficits, government deficits and inflation. If they would make the rupee convertible, then we can find a real free market value of the rupee. I would probably be extremely interested in India and in the rupee, but as long as you have got all these blockages, with the Indian government and Indian central bank trying to control everything, you cannot have a real market. So I am not too optimistic about the rupee.

On the other Asian currencies, the Chinese renminbi in probably going to continue to be strong. There will be ups and downs, but since it has been very strong recently, it is overdue for a correction. The Japanese yen will continue to be very weak, although I bought a few recently, because there are so many shorts at the moment. I am trying to be a trader, though I am a terrible trader. So if I am trying to go long the yen, it is undoubtedly going to go down. The Hong Kong dollar is probably okay to buy.

People flock to the US dollar during market turmoil

I own the US dollar. So I hope they are right. It worries me that you say that there is turning out to be a consensus. I like to be on the other side of the consensus.

My view is that we are going to have more currency turmoil in the world and during periods like that, many people flee to the US dollar. They think it is a safe haven. It is not a safe haven, but many people think it is. I expect more turmoil. Eventually, whether it is this year or next, when everybody has flocked to the US dollar, that is the time to sell and get out.

Markets could collapse in late 2014 - 2015

Eventually, central banks will not be able to stand in the way of the market and the markets will collapse. Which is going to be overdue later in 2014-2015. Then hopefully, we can start over from a sound base.
